Wow - an appliance so dated and awkward it should only be sold in refrigerator white. A car that makes a Sentra look appealing.

And that badge. I once had a G4. It was an expensive Macintosh that I bought in 1999. This car thing looked like a refuge from 1999, but completely l acking the style and functionality of that Macintosh.

There is nothing wrong with the Mirage, except it should only be offered as a hatchback and is overpriced. People can’t afford new cars anymore. It comes in some cool colors, but sadly no more pink.

We need more cheap cars here. Ford should sell the Figo up here. GM should import the Chevy Onix f rom Brazil. Maybe Geely or one of those Chinese cars will sell a $7000 new car here.

I don’t mind the Mirage but the G4 is an unnecessary compromise that looks significantly worse than the hatch.

The problem is it’s hard to sell a new cheap car when there are plenty of used cars out there. Who wants a new mirage when you could buy a 7 year old Accord fit the same money and have a nicer, more powerful car that will probably be just as reliable.

The only real advantage would be a lower interest rate if your financing which  99% of us are.

I agree. Also, no one would buy them.

Hatchback only would be a plus. I’m in agreement - more cheap cars are needed. They need to get back to basics, though. No power steering, no power windows, no cassette or CD player but just a radio with Bluetooth and aux input. And a manual transmission.

There was just something so homely and ungainly about that Mitsu. It looked like a 1st generation Prius without the style. I blame a lot of that on the American penchant for sedans over more practical hatchbacks, with the manufacturers being forced to graft on a trunk as an afterthought thus ruining  the lines of an acceptable hatchback.

It’s also one of the few not-terribly-heavy cars on sale.  I think it tips the scales right around 2,000 lbs.

are you my internal monologue? I agree with everything here, including lamenting loosing the pink. I almost bought one of these. I also happen to genuinely like Fridge White

Trunkified hatches are one of my automotive nemeses

Another thing about the Mirage G4, and inheritantly the regular Mirage hatch...

There were TWO in a Wendy’s parking lot when I got dinner the other night. A cheap one in white and a top of the line in dark red.

The white one was running...and I swear the thing sounds like a lawn mower.

That lower interest rate does mean something, though.

With a new car, it’s brand new, you don’t have to worry about the ownership history, how the previous owners drove it, etc. And you get to pick the color you want and other shit. With used, you’re stuck with whatever is there.

The car companies are jealous that the cheaper cars migh steal sales from more expensive cars, but really the cheap cars are competing with used cars, so they’re basically free sales to them.

Yes! A 4-door that meets modern US standards that weighs under 2000 lb. That’s worth something.
